John Hurley Announces Candidacy for State Representative |
20 November 2019
I am John Hurley. I am a career and technical educator, a union member, and a product of a rural agricultural upbringing. The people of Pike, Spencer, and Warrick Counties feel their interests are not represented in Indianapolis. We have a chance this election, in 2020, to take back Indiana. When I say “take back”, I mean for everyday Hoosiers, like the thousands and thousands of citizens left out of the so-called “Next Level” programs. Stagnant wages, backwards labor legislation, gerrymandered districts, deplorable state-mandated education policies, attacks on working families, intrusion on local control; these are all hallmarks of the current Indiana State Legislature.
This current course of regression cannot be altered without new perspectives in our Legislature. Therefore, with the support of fellow educators, union members, agriculturists, concerned citizens, and those who are unrepresented in Indianapolis, I am announcing my candidacy for State Representative of Indiana’s 75th District. I am running to focus on issues that actually matter and impact everyday Hoosiers - Education, Labor, Agriculture, Transparency, Constitutional Rights, and simply being heard, not overlooked; issues that have been ignored by the current supermajority. It will take work, but we will do better in Indiana. During this campaign, I ask for your honesty, your support, and your vote. Together, we can make Indiana a state with Strong Schools, Strong Communities, and Strong Citizens.
